It’s TBT at dollop of zest! Yes, it is Thursday, but we’re not talking about throwback Thursday “TBT”, we are talking Turkey Burger Time. Adding a few herbs and dollops gives this burger great flavor and helps save it from falling into the the dreaded dried out turkey burger category. And this burger has what it takes to go bun-less, be wrapped in a lettuce “bun”, plopped on top of a salad,  or if you’re feeling carb inclined, sandwiched in between a bun too. I served these burgers (bun-less) with grilled eggplant, tomato, cheese & basil towers and it was a light and satisfying dinner that was quick and easy to make.

If you follow dollop, and have checked out the zucchini boats recipe, you know I prefer Shady Brook Farms® 93/7 Lean Ground Turkey (that’s 93% lean and 7% fat) but any fresh ground turkey will work. Add to the turkey some chopped scallion, basil, parsley, seasoned bread crumbs, Worcestershire sauce, dijon mustard, a little black pepper and mix thoroughly. I mix the meat and seasonings in a large bowl with my hands and then form the mixture into 4 even size burgers.  You’re now ready to grill, serve and enjoy!

Serves: 4 burgers
Ingredients
  • Fresh ground turkey meat - 1 lbs (if your package has 1.3 lbs that's OK too)
  • Scallion - 1 finely chopped (1/4 cup)
  • Parsley -1/3 cup finely chopped
  • Fresh basil - 2 tablespoons finely chopped
  • Dijon mustard - 1 tablespoon
  • Seasoned bread crumbs - ⅓ cup
  • Worcestershire sauce - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper to taste
Instructions
  1. Rinse and finely chop scallion, parsley and basil
  2. Put turkey meat in a large bowl and add chopped scallion, parsley and basil, seasoned bread crumbs, dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce and black pepper
  3. Mix thoroughly
  4. Separate mixture into 4 even parts
  5. Form each part into a burger
  6. Place burgers on the grill and do not touch for 5 minutes or until the grill side of the burger is cooked
  7. Once the grill side is cooked flip the burger so the other side is now grill side down and let sit another 5 minutes
  8. Flip again and cook until burgers are finished (be careful not to over cook as that can cause the burgers to be dry)
  9. Serve

  1. I have made the turkey burgers twice.I make a double batch so I can freeze for another meal. Moist and flavorful on a bun or on top of a salad. I added cheese one night. 🙂
